captain's blog : sick on my break

I guess I overlooked the fact that I wouldn't get sick. And what's ironic is, I've been wanting to get sick too -- not seriously sick though; I've been working non-stop that I wanted to get sick and just stay in bed with a flu or a cold. I got both. Lucky me. I just thought I wouldn't get sick during my break. Now, I'm spending my break on the bed.
I remember what my gym teacher told me that no matter how healthy a person is, there will come a time when the body just shuts down. It happened to me this Tuesday. I've had one bad flu. Then Wednesday came; I didn't call in sick, so I went to work completely sick. I wasn't spreading the germs, mind you. I wasn't coughing like a madman too. I was weak, my voice was hoarse, and the headache was unbearable, I worked under the weather. I was so glad that I made it after my shift without causing any problem. But it was especially hard when I was going home since it's still winter. I couldn't breathe properly, because the chilled air aggravated my throat, making me cough without cease. It was hard to breathe properly. That night was quite an ordeal for a commute home. I walked slow with short breaths and steady to the bus shelter.
Both me and my mom are sick. I'm feeling much better now. But I'm not sure if I'm ready to go outside yet. I think the last time I got sick is from a mild strep throat. And what's ironic again is that, I was searching Google Images for 'strep throat' [from curiosity]. When I saw several images, I believed that my throat could never turn that bad -- days before I actually caught a strep throat.
I have work again this Saturday, so I'm nursing myself right now. But I guess Wednesday was another achievement for me. It's actually the second time I came to work sick. Here are a few 'Work achievements'. haha.
I noticed that when you're sick, time goes by so slow. I kept waking up in the middle of the night and I noticed that I wake up an interval of 1 hour; somehow it felt like I slept very long. Usually, when you fall asleep and wake up in the morning, there's this lingering feeling as if your sleep was short. But yeah, it was hard to get some sleep. Wednesday afternoon felt so slow too. On the bus, while listening to my mp3, it sounded like my songs had a slower tempo; although I knew that the songs were played as they were. And I noticed how the cars were moving slow. It's how I felt; the world spun very slow.
I guess inspiration would come from many form. Getting sick is one of them. I've told myself not to take it for granted when my body feels fine. It feels great when you don't have joint pains, nasal congestion or a headache. It feels great when you're not sick at all. When you're not sick, when there are no aches or pains, make most out of life.
