One night a guy & a girl were driving home from the movies. The boy sensed there was something wrong because of the painful silence they shared between them that night. The girl then asked the boy to pull over because she wanted to talk. She told him that her feelings had changed & that it was time to move on. A silent tear slid down his cheek as he slowly reached into his pocket & passed her a folded note. At that moment, a drunk driver was speeding down that very same street. He swerved right into the drivers seat, killing the boy. Miraculously, the girl survived. Remembering the note, she pulled it out & read it. "Without your love, I would die." I decided to walk away from my busy schedule for a few brief moments. I left my office and walked a couple streets down to the park. I noticed this little girl sitting on a bench. Dressed in a worn pink dress, bare foot and dirty, the little girl just sat and watched the people go by. She seemed sad and all alone. I watched for over an hour. No one seemed to notice or even care about this little girl. The next day after work I went back to the park, in curiosity, to see if the little girl would still be there. Right in the very spot, with the same sad look as yesterday, sat the little girl. Again, no one seemed to notice her. As we all know, a park full of strange people is not a place for small child to be alone. I began to worry that she may not have a home. I wondered if she was hungry. I decided to walk over to her. I stopped by the hotdog stand and bought a hotdog and a drink. As I got closer, I noticed the back of the little girl's dress was strangely shaped. I realized she had a huge lump on her back. I wondered if that might be part of the reason why so many people just passed by and made no effort to help her. Some people are afraid of those who are different, while others, like me, simply don't take the time to notice someone in need. The little girl slightly lowered her eyes to avoid my approach. I smiled to let her know it was ok, I was there to help. I was ther to talk. I sat down beside her and offered her the food. The little girl seemed surprised as she stammered a "Hi" after a brief stare into my eyes. I smiled and she shyly smiled back, then she graciously said "Thank You" as she reached for the hotdog. We talked for about an hour, till darkness fell and the park was completely empty except for the two of us. I asked the little girl why she was so sad. She looked at me with a frown and answered "Because I'm different". My heart went out to her, this precious little girl who felt so alone in this world. I smiled and said "what a wonderful thing... to be different!". The little girl seemed even sadder as she said, "I know". "You remind me of an Angel... sweet and innocent", I remarked. She looked at me and smiled. Slowly, she stood to her feet and said "Really?" "Yes ma'am... your like a little guardian angel sent to watch over all those people walking by". She shook her head yes and smiled. With that, she spread her wings and with a twinkle in her eyes, said "I am an Angel indeed. I'm one of YOUR Guardian Angels". I was speechless... certain that I was seeing things. "You finally took the time to care about someone other than yourself. I'm so proud of you... " She smiled as she began to gently lift from the ground, "My job here is done." I stood to my feet and asked, "Wait... Why did no one else stop to help you?" She looked at me and smiled, "You're the only one who could see me, as you truly believe in the presence of Angels..." She blinked her eyes and reminded me... "You are never alone.", and then she was gone. With that, my life has changed dramatically. I realize that things... people... are not always as they appear. I woke up early. It's funny because it's summer break and I usually wake up around 12pm or so. I didn't have anything important to do, so I used my free time to write something. In the end, all my energy was spent in deciding what to write. Bummed and painful. Opening of classes is fast approaching. It's already the 22nd of May. In two weeks, I'll be back in University of the Philippines for my second year. Wow, I'm already a sophomore. That was fast. I'm counting on a better performance this coming schoolyear. It rained today. It's only May. Usually, the wet season in the Philippines starts at June. I'm kinda' glad the rain poured down. The hot temperature gave me a freakin' headache. Then, it started to thunder. The cooling temperature gave me a soothing relief. Finally, it poured. posted by: kimikimkim
